This month's DARE is courtesy of my friend Carrie. Carrie is my literary soul-mate, my guru if you will, and her library is my Mecca (those shelves are stacked 3-deep yo!) Sometimes I can be found sitting in front of it, cross-legged, rocking back and forth, chanting. She has to kindly inform me that I'm scaring her child.
Our tastes of books may not always be exactly the same, but our tastes of red wine definetly are. She has been in this game long before me so when she talks about a book, series, author etc., I listen. Carrie I heart you.
Carrie has selected Glass Houses by Rachel Caine for me this month, saying:
I know you've been unimpressed by YA in the past, but the Morganville Vampires series is so much more than your typical story of teenage angst, a la vampire. And I think you're going to love the series' heroine. She's ubber smart, so strong-minded is somewhat of an understatement. And the author's from Texas... doesn't that mean that as a former Texan you HAVE to like her.

Back Cover:
It's a small college town filled with quirky characters. But when the sun goes down, the bad comes out. Because in Morganville, there is an evil that lives in the darkest shadows-one that will spill out into the bright light of day.
Claire Danvers has had enough of her nightmarish dorm situation. The popular girls never let her forget just where she ranks on the school's social scene: somewhere less than zero. And Claire really doesn't have the right connections-to the undead who run the town.
When Claire heads off campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don't show many signs of life. But they'll have Clarie's back when the town's deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood---
They're like crack Jess, you'll get through the whole series in less then a week ;)
ReplyDeleteI read this entire series this year and I'm not a YA reader. It's def. a winner. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteWLP: LMAO I think she knew that. She gave me the first 6 books and said "TRUST me, you'll be happy you have them when you start"
ReplyDeleteScooper: I can't wait!
Great dare! I am really curious about this series and now you can tell me all about it. Win for me and for you! ;)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear what you think. I'm not really big on YA but I've heard great things about this series.
ReplyDeleteJulie: They're really short, I think you should just read with me!
ReplyDeleteFV: I don't ride the YA train either, so I promise to honest with you :)
They're fab books. To be honest YA can be hit and miss with me, so it took me a while to read this series despite being a huge fan of Rachel's Weather Wardens, and her romances, but when I did, I fell in love with Claire & Co. Like Wicked Lil Pixie said, they're like crack! *g* Hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSuzanne: *waves excitedly* I always freak out when an author stops by my little ol site.
ReplyDeleteI am excited to start, and hope that I'll finally find a YA to get into.
Yay! I can't wait to hear what you think! It makes me want to reread them! (oh wait you have them...and I have a whole stack of books I am trying to decide what to read now....smutty, ya, urban fantasy...or settle down on our book club book...."lions and tigers and bears oh my!") Heart you too! I need some inspiration on books....
ReplyDeleteMy agent has recommended this series to me, as well, and with so many great recommendations, it's now topping my TBR pile. :)
ReplyDeleteCarrie: You've got some tough choices to make there, good luck! xo
ReplyDeleteLinda: Wow, if your agent is even suggesting I take that as a good sign! :D
I've heard a lot about this series Jess and it's all been very good. I can't wait to here what you think of it! :-) I am SOOOOOO jealous of her bookshelf! I want something like that one day filling every wall in a room!
