Synopsis:

Anna never knew werewolves existed until the night she survived a violent attack and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the pack, she'd learned to keep her head down and never, ever trust dominant males. But Anna is that rarest kind of werewolf; an Omega. And one of the most powerful werewolves in the country will recognize her value as a pack member;and as his mate.

Review:

Since I didn't really get into the Mercy Thompson series I thought I'd try her other series, the Alpha & Omega and sadly I had some of the same issues. Briggs writes wolves so well that the story seems to be more about the wolves' reactions and the implications of their actions rather than about a central plot.  Sure, there is a "bad guy" here and Charles and Anna must try to stop bad things from happening, but it seemed to me as though the most important thing about this book was "if I look down right he's going to think that I'm weak and then that'll mean maybe I am weak and I'm an Omega so I have to be strong, but I'm damaged and even though I like him, I can't really tell him that because then that'll mean I'm weak... ok I'm going to look him in the eyes."  Phew, all that just to decide how to react when someone asks you if you're ok.  Like I said, it's only because Briggs writes wolves so well.  Dominance is a wolf's thing. I get it, it just isn't my cup of tea.

I will say that I actually enjoyed that this series is centered around this couple Anna and Charles.  Their wolves have recognized one another as "mates" and now their human sides have to learn how to fit together. They're both interesting characters and extremely complimentary.  They each have history that you'll become more and more curious about as the book carries on.

I know I'm in the minority for not getting into Briggs' work, but the constant displays of dominance really just don't do it for me.

Bottom Line: Fans of Briggs' Mercy Thompson series will enjoy this new pack of wolves.
